Hello dear watchers,

I would like to say few things about using manual focusing over auto focus. Let's get clear about this. My goal is not to underestimate the using of auto focus, I'm just trying to show you some scenarios when manual focus is much better choice! :)

Bluesman by micecat :bulletgreen: Low Light - Shooting in low light conditions can be difficult for some cameras and lenses when it comes to focusing and without AF assist light from camera or a flash it can be really tough situation. As you have probably noticed your camera is struggling to focus on dark objects during night which have little or no light or contrast. This is the situation when manual focus comes in handy.  Manually you will focus much more accurate and faster, and you will not miss a great shot.

Confusions by micecat :bulletgreen: Shooting Through Glass or Wire Fences - Shooting through the glass or fence and through any other obstacle like grass blades, sticks and leaves can confuse auto focus system very easy. Using manual focus will get your focus right on the subject in much shorter time. This can be also very handy for wildlife photography.

Beauty by micecat :bulletgreen: Portraits - Most important aspect of portrait photography is the eyes. When shooting portraits focus needs to be precise and right on the subject's eyes. Manual focus gives you full control over focus and you can easily set the focus right where you want it.

sopping crane fly by micecat :bulletgreen: Macro - The narrow depth of field in macro photography mean that you need to be incredibly precise with focusing. Just like in portrait photography your focus needs to be on the right place and manual focus allows you that.

:bulletred: Photographic Experience - In my opinion this is the biggest advantage of manual focusing. Using manual focus will force you to think more about photographs you taking and became better photographer. The feeling when you make proper shot using full manual lens is beautiful! At that moment you know you are entirely responsible for your work. For me, it's the only way to truly experience the photography.

I'm sure there are more reasons to use manual focus but these are the the most important one. In few words - big advantage of using manual focus over auto focus is full control. Cameras can never get into your brain and see where do you want to put your focus. And your eye is still more accurate in some situations than the AF system. Keep on mind that not all lenses are designed for manual focusing. You will need to practice and learn some tricks before you master manual focusing, and when you do, it will become very useful!

That's all for now :)

PS. If you have some questions or suggestions or you want to share your opinion, don't be shy and feel free to contact me :)

Dear fellow artists,

Is there someone who is in love with old manual focus lenses like i am? :) These lenses are cheap and very good! If you're lucky, you may found some great lenses for few quid. You can use them on your DLSR and mirrorless cameras. Trust me, when you attach one of these old babies on your camera, chance is 90% you will instantly become addicted to them. At least that was the case with me :)

So, i have a bunch of these old lenses and i will share some photos and my opinions about them. I use only m42 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M42_lens… for now, on my Canon DSLR cameras.

Let's start with one of my favourite lenses - Auto Revuenon 135mm f2.8. I got mine for about 10 euros from local auction web site. Lens is made in Japan. The build quality is decent, construction is pretty similar to Chinon and Ricoh 135mm lenses. Minimal focus distance is 1.5m or 5ft. It has 6 blades f2.8 aperture. Focus ring is very nice and easy going. Pictures taken with this lens are quite sharp and bokeh is very nice and creamy despite 6 blades aperture. Small lack of contrast and color saturation in certain light conditions are some kind of features of Auto Revuenon 135/2.8. So if you like those dreamy photos, this is the right m42 lens for you! :) I highly recommend this lens for portrait photography.

That's all for now :) Little clue - next time i will review some Russian made lens(es) :)

We're back ^^

All right folks, first of all i'm not a person who writes these journals and stuff like this, but this time i'll make an exception. For a very long time i was without any camera, and finally i spent some money on second hand Canon 400D + EF-S 18-55 II cheapo, plastic lens. It's my first DSLR camera, and i'm very pleased with it. Though, lens will be replaced with something better (if you have some recommendation for some nice and cheap lenses, don't be shy to post comments). Anyway, i'm glad to say that after a little break, we're taking snapshots again :)
